A launch of book written by a diaspora Tamil
Mr. A. Natarajan, the Consul-General of India in Jaffna who attended the launch of book as Chief Guest, said that it is a great privilege to launch a book written by a Tamil from Jaffna but living abroad for several years. Mr. T. Nesa Ilankai Mannan, a Diaspora Tamil writer, and human rights activist living in London launched his book ‘International human rights charter’ at Jaffna Public Library on 8th August 2016. Jaffna is a land of literature. A land of intelligentia. I was working in Kandy before I was transferred to North. There are also writers. There is not a single day when there was no launch of books in Sri Lanka. Sometimes, there are events in which several books launched on the same stage by the same author. I was surprised to note these exceptional events. This happens due to the love they have for our mother tongue Tamil. When I read news reports that some diaspora Tamils launch their books abroad, I feel sad. I used to advice some of the known persons to come here and launch the books in Jaffna. I told Mr. Nesa Ilanka Mannan to do so. I am so happy that the launch of his book at this historic library’s auditorium among the learned people and experienced leaders here. I am proud to be a participant in this event. Though the author lives in London, he came all the way from London to launch the book in his motherland. This shows his love to his motherland. I have seen some books written by Arumuga Navalar when I went to a library in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tamilnadu. I wish to record here that we will take actions to bring copies of those books to Jaffna Public Library very soon. Though there are lots of Tamil writers around the world, a day will come that most the Tamil writers will be from Northern Province.
