Remarks at the celebration arranged by Jaffna Tamil Sangam to commemorate Subramaniya Bharathiyar
Bharathiyar, the incomparable poet of the 20th century, made the people bold and aware of many social issues. Those people were afraid and not honest those days. It gives me great pleasure to know that Jaffna Tamil Sangam celebrates the memory of this revolutionary perennial poet. Mr.A.Natarajan, CG of India in Jaffna made this remarks at the celebration arranged by Jaffna Tamil Sangam to commemorate this poet. Bharathy wanted to abolish the caste system. Even from the minds of children, he wanted to eliminate that there were no castes in the world. He tried to eradicate male chauvinism and proudly declared that woman is equal to man. He inculcated the patriotism among the people to have freedom. He removed superstitions among the people. He wrote poems on the themes of unity, boldness, respect, love for all, freedom of women, and freedom of the country for the revival of the society. His open-mindedness, broad vision for the society, unselfish perceptions must be taken into consideration by all, Natarajan said.
