Remark at the launch of the “Mukavari’ Magazine held at the Lakshmi Wedding Hall, Thirunelvely.
I have never seen people like Sri Lankans who revere their motherland. Jaffna people have been following their culture and traditions in a commendable manner. We are ready to help the Jaffna people who had been undergoing several sufferings during the last three decades, said Mr.A.Natarajan, the Consul General of India in Jaffna. He made this remark at the launch of the “Mukavari’ Magazine held at the Lakshmi Wedding Hall, Thirunelvely. The event was held last Wednesday, and it was presided over by Mr.A.Panchalingam, Emeritus Principal of Jaffna Hindu College. The following is an excerpt of the speech the CG delivered at the function. I had a strong desire to visit Jaffna since my childhood. I never thought that the dream would come true. I was given an opportunity by the Indian government to work in Kandy for three years. My dream came true after I got the transfer to Jaffna. I have worked in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Africa, and Europe. People speak Tamil in those countries too. But they are not like Jaffna Tamil. Jaffna Tamil has spirit. Jaffna people would speak good literary Tamil. A good style of Tamil is used here. It gives me great pleasure to know that people and villages have pure Tamil names. There is a village called Ezhuthumadduvazh. I think only literate people live here. A person has been named as Ahalankan. These are some of the specialties of Jaffna. There is no another place like Jaffna that venerates the language, mother land, and cultural values. Jaffna people are looked upon for their education, culture, and their behavior. Media are doing their work properly. Mukavari magazine is the next one on the list of print media released from Jaffna. I wish the new magazine to prosper as a weekly and daily issue in the future.
