PRESS RELEASE
Applications are invited from Sri Lankan students for undergraduate courses in MBBS/BDS, Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Pharmacy, Diploma in Engineering and Diploma in Pharmacy in Colleges/Universities in India under Self-Financing Scheme for the academic year 2014-15.
2. Applicants may note that with regard to MBBS/BDS the eligibility criteria i.e. whether the students have to appear in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) to be held in India is sub-judice in Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The availability of the seats would be known only in June/July 2014.
3. The candidate must ensure to submit the following documents in triplicate:
- Three sets of applications.
- Three copies of candidate’s recent photographs duly attested by the Indian High Commission, Colombo/Consulate General of India, Jaffna
- Three attested copies of candidate’s certificates and marks sheets with percentage of marks of the qualifying examination. (A certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi that the candidate’s qualifying examination is equivalent to 10+2 standard of Central Board of Secondary Education in India for the purpose of admission to MBBS/BDS/B.E/B. Pharmacy/Diploma in Engineering/Diploma in Pharmacy courses must be enclosed.
- Three attested copies of candidate’s:
- First four pages of passport;
- Citizenship certificate;
- Birth certificate;
- Character certificate from the Head of Institution last attended.
4. Students can also apply for nomination pending final declaration of their qualifying examination results equivalent to 10+2 standard of CBSE. Nomination of such candidates will, however, depend upon their being eligible on the basis of merit.
5. The applicants may note that merely forwarding their applications should not be treated as assurance for their nomination.
6. The candidates may have to undergo a medical test including Aids test on arrival in India. Candidates are expected to comply with admission formalities and procedures of respective college/universities.
7. The applicants may please note that Government of India does not provide any financial aid/scholarships to foreign students.Candidates may note that AIIMS charges a fee of US $ 75,000/- payable in three equal installments for MBBS course.
8. Eligibility criteria for various courses:
- For admission to MBBS/BDS courses: A candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks with at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology) separately and 50% in English in the qualifying examination (equivalent to 10+2 standard of CBSE in India – equivalence certificate from AIU, New Delhi must be enclosed).
- For B.E. course: A candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks with at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics separately and 50% in English in the qualifying examination (equivalent to 10+2 standard of CBSE in India – equivalence certificate from AIU, New Delhi must be enclosed).
- For B. Pharmacy/Diplooma in Pharmacy courses: A candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks with at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology) separately and 50% in English in the qualifying examination (equivalent to 10+2 standard of CBSE in India – equivalence certificate from AIU, New Delhi must be enclosed).
- For Diploma in Engineering Course: A candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks with at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics separately in the first attempt and 50% in English in 10th and 12th Grade examination (equivalence certificate from AIU, New Delhi must be enclosed).
- It may please be noted that for admission to 1st year Diploma in Engineering course, the age limit of the candidate should be below 21 years as on 1.8.2014.
- Some Directorates of Technical Education require that the minimum aggregate marks should be obtained in the first attempt.
9. Last date for receipt of completed applications (in the prescribed profroma) for verification of details in High Commission of India Colombo is 30thMarch 2014after which the forms will be forward to Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.Applications received at HCI, Colombo after 30 March 2014 will not be considered.
10. For students residents in the Districts of Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar they have the option to submit the application as mentioned at Paragraph 3 above to the Consulate General of India, Jaffna, No.14, Maruthady Lane, Nallur, Jaffna before 30 March 2014 for onward transmission to High Commission of India, Colombo.
