INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS- 2024
  1. 1. The Consulate General of India celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India (15 August, 2024) with Consul General Sh. Sai Murali and Brigadier Priyantha Nawarathna (Brigadier General Staff), Sri Lanka Security Forces (Jaffna) paying floral respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly, Jaffna. Following this, Consul General hoisted the Indian flag at a function at the Consulate followed by rendering of the National Anthem by the officials of the Consulate and the Indian community. Consul General of India read the Hon’ble Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu's address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day.

  3. 2. About 130 people, including Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin, friends of India, journalists from local media, among others participated in the event.

  5. 3. The Consul General also participated in an event at the Kayts DS office (1100 hrs), where he provided financial assistance to women entrepreneurs as part of the Women Empowerment initiative. Consul General handed over equipment and raw materials to a group of six women entrepreneurs involved in a small-scale detergent liquid manufacturing business. Kayts DS Manchuladevi Satheesan also took part in the event. The event at the Kayts DS office also featured a tree planting ceremony by Consul General.
