Celebration of the 92nd Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

1. The 92nd birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India was celebrated (October 13, 2023) with Consul General Shri. Raakesh Nataraj garlanding and paying floral tributes to his statue at the India Corner, Jaffna Public Library. Jaffna Municipal Commissioner Jeyaseelan, the Chief Librarian, Library officials and Consulate officials, also joined in paying the floral tributes.

2. Jaffna Municipal Commissioner Jeyaseelan thanked the Indian government for installing the bust of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam at the Indian Corner of the Jaffna Public Library and termed it as the pride of Jaffna. He spoke on the connections of Dr. Kalam with Jaffna and said that his endeavours in the field of Science and Technology had lead Indian to its greatest achievement in the field of space with the launch of Chandrayaan-3.

3. Speaking at the event, Consul General while hailing former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul kalam for his achievements underscored how his love for books served as an inspiration and took him to great heights from humble beginnings. He highlighted that every youth must cultivate the habit of reading be it of any language and noted that in future events will be organised in collaboration with Jaffna Public Library to encourage the habit of reading among the youth of Northern Province. Consul General also paid visit to the gallery set up in Jaffna Public Library as part of the National Reading Month and said that gallery presented a diverse view of the historic culture and tradition of Sri Lanka.
