Honourable Salman Khurshid, External Affairs Minister of India who is on his first official visit to Sri Lanka is arriving in Jaffna on a one day visit on October 8, 2013. He is accompanied by H.E. Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and an India media contingent.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid during his visit to Jaffna will call on the Hon’ble Governor G.A.Chandrasiri who will also host a lunch in honour of the visiting Minister and his delegation. Hon’ble Minister will also meet Hon’ble C.V. Wigneswaran, Chief Minister- designate of Northern Province Council and discuss with him issues of mutual interest. Hon’ble Minister also will take the opportunity to visit the second phase of the Indian Housing Project at Tellipalai and interact with a few beneficiaries at Tellipalai.
Hon’ble Minister during his visit will preside over a ceremony where he will distribute certificates to few beneficiaries of the Second Indian Housing Project who have completed the construction of their houses with the grant provided by the Government of India amounting to SLR 5,50,000 to each house. He will also distribute certificates to few beneficiaries who are small business owners whose business were damaged during the war. A total of 1230 beneficiaries, owners of micro to small business enterprises, belonging to Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts are being extended financial assistance by the Government of India amounting from SLR 25,000 to SLR 200,000 to a total grant amounting to SLR 91 million.
Honourable Minister will return back to Colombo en-route India on completion of his Jaffna visit.
