PRESS RELEASE
1. As part of Government of India’s initiatives towards development of education in the Northern Province, LKR 250 Million was allocated for construction of class room buildings in 27 schools in the Northern Province. Of these 27 schools, construction of class room buildings in fifteen (15) schools have been completed and already dedicated to the people of the Northern Province.
2. In continuation, class room buildings in five more schools in the Northern Province, viz. J/Katheeja Muslim Mahalir Vidyalayam, J/Valalai A.M.T.M.S., J/Ilavalai St. Henry’s College, J/Varuththalaivilan A.M.T.M.S. and Mu/Visuvanathar Primary School built at a cost of about SLR 12.05 mn, SLR 6.11mn, SLR 14.92mn, SLR 8.31 mn and SLR 14.26 mn respectively, totaling SLR 55.65mn, under a Government of India grant, were handed over to the school authorities by Mr. Vinod K. Jacob, Deputy High Commissioner of India on January 15, 2020. To mark the occasion, plaques were jointly unveiled by the Deputy High Commissioner and Mrs. P.S.M. Charles, Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province at a function at St. Henry’s College, Ilavalai and through video-conferencing facility for the rest of the schools. Education Secretary Mr. L. Ilaangovan welcomed the gathering. While in her address, the Hon’ble Governor thanked India for the assistance, the Deputy High Commissioner listed out the projects completed and ongoing under Indian assistance and expressed hope that they would bring about overall development of the Province.
3. Education authorities, school principals, teachers, staff members, students, parents and well-wishers attended the ceremony.
