A “Thirukural Day” was celebrated on March 19, 2019 at Vidyananda College, Mullaitivu with a financial assistance of LKR 2.16 lakh granted by Government of India.

On the occasion, the Consul General inaugurated the “Day” with the garlanding of the Thiruvalluvar statue located on the College premises. He also delivered a special address. Speakers and students of the College extolled the virtues contained in Thirukural. The programme of the day included a debate in Tamil on Thirukural conducted by Jaffna Tamil Sangam, dance performances, a poem recital and distribution of prizes to students who had won competitions related to Thirukural.

Over 1000 students and faculty members participated in the event.
