Shankar’s International Children’s Drawing/Painting Competition for school children in Northern Province

The Consulate General of India in Jaffna has conducted an On-the-spot Shankar’s International Children’s Drawing/Painting Competition for school children in Northern Province on Saturday, November 14, 2015. November 14 coincides with the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. This is the first time that the Indian Consulate has organized such an International Competition in Northern Province. The Competition was held at Vembady Girls’ High School. Hon’ble Chairman of Northern Provincial Council C.V.K. Sivagnanam graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The Drawing/Painting/Essay Writing Competition was started in 1949 by (late) K. Shankar Pillai, a well-known Indian cartoonist. Last year, around 1,60,000 children participated from over 130 countries. The competition is open to children from all over the world. There is no entry fee. Competitors are free to choose their own themes.

The results of the Competition will be declared by Shankar’s International Children’s Competition, New Delhi in September 2016. The entries will be judged by jurists. The judges’ decision will be final.

From this year onwards, the Indian Consulate intends to organize the Shankar’s International Children Drawing/Painting Competition in Northern Province annually.
