The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the procedure for Indian citizens residing abroad to register themselves in the voter rolls for their respective constituencies in India.

As per the guidelines, any Indian citizen residing in a foreign country, who has not acquired citizenship of another country and has attained the age of 18 years as of January 1st of the year, is eligible to apply for registration by submitting Form 6A. This application is to be presented to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of their constituency.

To facilitate the process, interested individuals can obtain Form 6A, along with comprehensive guidelines for its completion, from the official website of the Election Commission of India: https://ecisveep.nic.in/voters/overseas-voters/

Applicants are required to directly submit the completed application forms to the respective EROs of their constituencies. Alongside the application, applicants must provide one recent passport-sized color photograph with a light background, displaying the full face of the applicant. Additionally, self-attested photocopies of relevant passport pages containing the applicant's photograph and other particulars, along with the page containing a valid visa, must be submitted.

Once enrolled, Indian nationals living abroad will have the opportunity to exercise their franchise in the elections of their particular constituency. However, it is imperative to note that voting by post, at Indian Missions abroad, or through online means is not permissible.

It is further emphasized that on the day of the election, individuals intending to cast their votes must be physically present at the polling station of their constituency, accompanied by their original passport.
